LEADING UK HOMECARE PROVIDER - UI REDESIGN & DESIGN SYSTEM

Redesigning a legacy website and laying the foundations for a scalable design system to support clarity, accessibility, and design maturity.

Problem

A leading home care provider approached us to modernise their outdated website. While their service offering was strong, the digital experience didn’t reflect the professionalism or warmth of the organisation. The site lacked visual consistency, accessibility standards were not consistently met, and there were no shared rules or reusable components behind the interface.

The challenge wasn’t just to deliver a new look and feel, but to help the internal team establish the design foundations needed to evolve and maintain the experience over time.

Process

We began by mapping out core user journeys and aligning with stakeholders on the site's most important functions. Throughout the design process, we incorporated user preference testing to guide key decisions - shaping layout, hierarchy and visual tone based on real audience feedback.

Alongside the redesign work, I led the development of a modular design system. This covered the essentials: typography, colour, spacing, and core components - designed with accessibility and ease of use in mind.

Early documentation was created to support internal adoption and ongoing governance.

Iterations

The initial focus was on creating a design language that felt modern, accessible, and calm - qualities that reflect the nature of the organisation's services. Regular review sessions helped refine components and patterns while building internal confidence in the system.

We also supported the team in establishing the early stages of design governance, helping them adopt practical habits and decision-making frameworks to keep things consistent going forward.

Current State

The fundamentals of the system are now in place. While the full site is still in development, the work done so far has provided a clear direction and a strong foundation for both design and governance.

The new components and patterns are already informing the build, and the system is being used to guide decisions across other parts of the organisation’s digital presence.

Impact

This project marks an important step towards design maturity for the client. With a structured, flexible system in place, they’re now better equipped to manage and scale their digital presence with clarity and consistency.

As development continues, the design system will serve as a foundation - not just for this site, but for future experiences built around the same principles.
